Michael Feffer is a recent Societal Computing graduate from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and current Postdoctoral Fellow at DLI. He is broadly interested in examining interactions between AI and society to study how to leverage the strengths of AI while avoiding its negative outcomes. At DLI, he aims to develop frameworks whereby everyday people impacted by AI models can influence model development and deployment. Intended areas of research include participatory approaches to AI development, AI alignment and evaluation, and other sociotechnical AI problems. During his PhD program, he received a GEM Fellowship, an ARCS Scholarship, and a Best Paper Award from the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society (AIES).
