Combining Law and Computer Science to
Establish Justice and Promote the General Welfare
We ask, "Who controls technology, and what are the alternatives?" The Cornell Tech Research Lab in Applied Law and Technology (CTRL-ALT) supports the integrated study of law and computer science at Cornell. Founded in 2021 as part of the Digital Life Institute (DLI) at Cornell Tech, CTRL-ALT treats these two disciplines as equally important partners in a deeply needed collaboration to understand what happens when legal codes meet machine code. CTRL-ATL brings together legal scholars, computer scientists, and experts from across the academy, industry, government, and society to learn from each other and to promote public understanding, thoughtful regulation, and responsible technology.
