Britt S. Paris is an Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at Rutgers University and a Fellow with the AI Now Institute. A critical informatics scholar, her research examines the political economy of information infrastructure, with particular attention to evidentiary standards, political action, digital labor, AI-generated information, civic data, and the political and ethical assumptions embedded in technological systems. Her work draws on science and technology studies, political economy, cultural studies, and social epistemology to explore how information systems might better serve public and societal interests. Paris holds an M.A. in Media Studies from The New School and a Ph.D. in Information Studies from UCLA, and is an alumna of the Data & Society Research Institute. She also chairs the national American Association of University Professors (AAUP) ad hoc committee on AI in the profession and holds several leadership roles within Rutgers focused on labor, media and communications, power, and inequality.
