Catherine Griffiths is a designer, researcher, and Assistant Professor in Computational Design Practices at Columbia GSAPP whose work explores the politics of machine learning and its impact on labor, gender, governance, and urban life. Viewing algorithms as contemporary sites of struggle, her research examines how AI is reshaping human rights and social relations across cities, workplaces, and the home. Her creative practice brings together critical AI studies, social documentary, and algorithmic visualization, using simulations, films, installations, and critical software to make visible—and challenge—the computational forces structuring society. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Geidei University in Tokyo, and the National Etruscan Museum in Rome. In 2024, she received a BRAID Responsible AI research grant from UKRI and the AHRC.
