Emrys Schoemaker
DLI Visiting Fellow
Emrys Schoemaker’s research focuses on the use of digital technologies in the Global South, and the economic, social and political transformations they lead to. He is especially interested in how everyday practices can be the basis for international development policy and practice and the interventions they lead to. Emrys is currently leading research into the way farmers use social media platforms – primarily Facebook and Whatsapp – to understand the practices that characterize their use and to identify insights as to how their use impacts the livelihoods outcomes. He will be conducting qualitative and quantitative research in Kenya over the next 12 months. Emrys has a PhD in International Development from the London School of Economics.
