Welcome to our show
Good Code is a weekly podcast about ethics in our digital world. We look at ways in which our increasingly digital societies could go terribly wrong, and speak with those trying to prevent that. If you like TV shows, think of it as Black Mirror meets The Good Place: dystopian scenarios with a way out. Each week, our host Chine Labbé engages with a different expert on the ethical dilemmas raised by our ever-more pervasive digital technologies. One week we’ll examine digital cash, the following online privacy. And, for each topic, we will explore our dystopian fears but focus on possible solutions. Because yes, we are optimists at heart, and we believe technology, if designed and regulated properly, can bring a lot of good into this world. Good Code is a dynamic collaboration between Cornell Tech's Digital Life Initiative and journalist Chine Labbé.

Meet your host
Chine Labbé is a visiting journalist at Cornell Tech’s Digital Life Initiative, where she is currently exploring the ethics of digital technology through this podcast. A French national, she has worked for the French national radio, The Economist, and most recently for Reuters in Paris. After six years covering politics, courts and terrorism for Reuters, she relocated to New York City in 2017. She graduated from the Columbia University Graduate school of Journalism in 2010, where she studied on a Fulbright scholarship. In 2009, she won the Anna Lindh Journalist Award for a ten-minute radio documentary about Palestinian lawyers. On top of producing and hosting Good Code, Chine also teaches freedom of the press workshops in public schools.

What’s the format of the show?
Each episode is approximately 20 to 30 minutes long: most of them are single guest interviews, but some will include more voices and reporting. Good Code deals with heavy topics, so you might want to sit back to enjoy it to its fullest. But please bring us along on your morning run or commute: we are the right length, and we promise, we will keep things light as much as possible.
Are the interviews edited?
All conversations are edited and condensed for clarity... and for length! Because let’s be honest, when talking to these fascinating people, our host sometimes gets carried away, and runs well over the 20 to 30 minute length you expect!
How do you pick your guests?
Chine Labbé selects all guests with full editorial independence, based on her own interests, as well as their research and availability, at Cornell Tech and beyond. Potential pools for guests include: DLI, its seminar series' guests, Cornell Tech, but also New York's vibrant academic, tech and journalistic scene.

How is Good Code produced?
Saying that our team is small would be an understatement. Chine Labbé, our host, structures and assembles the entire show, from research through to the editing. Corey Schreppel, our mix engineer, gives the final love to our episodes, and makes them ready for your delicate ears. The music theme was composed by Zoe Sarnak, and our branding, website and promotional materials were designed by Michael Byrne, a DLI Research Fellow.
